Storm Season.
16/11/2008. Licensed electrical contractors on stand-by
Brisbane City Council and the Master Electricians are advising residents to be
vigilant in only using licensed electrical contractors for assessing and fixing
electrical appliances and wiring in the aftermath of Sundays storms.
380 licensed electrical contractors are on stand-by to inspect any water-damaged
electrical equipment. Residents should not attempt to fix appliances themselves
and should not engage the services of unlicensed contractors. If appliances have
been water-damaged, please do not switch them on unless they have been checked
by a licensed electrician.
Residents can contact Au Sparky on 0401076888 or the Master Electricians
emergency call centre on 3251 2444 (from 7am-6pm) to organise a licensed
electrical contractor to come out to their property.

Residents should not reconnect appliances if damage to their homes may have
exposed electrical equipment to water damage.
Any appliances that have been affected by stormwater, if reconnected, have the
potential to not only cause further damage, but also injure or even kill
someone.
Each affected property should be inspected a licensed electrical contractor.
ENERGEX will not reconnect properties that have significantly damaged by
stormwater without an inspection and clearance by a licensed contractor.
Qld Fire & Rescue Service undertake damage assessments. If electrical damage is
evident, then residents will require a Form 3 from Energex before returning to
their properties.
